I Don’t Wanna Go Off on a Rant here…

I used to love watching the Dennis Miller show. The monologues were always the best because the references would come fast and furious. That, and I love watching people get a little frothy while ranting.

The Phibian’s on a bit of a tear today, and it’s equally awesome to behold.

We have gone in debt and they have grown dependent. We should only go where we have to, proactively and unilaterally when we must, overseas. We should not be the world’s cost-free police force and low-cost security methadone clinic. We should be your friend and trading partner – not your Daddy or your b1tch.

The whole thing is genius.

What started it you ask? This NYTimes letter by Bono describing why he thinks the President is deserving of the Nobel Prize, and calling America out to Save teh Planet.

Well, I happen to be European, and I can project with the best of them. So here’s why I think the virtual Obama is the real Obama, and why I think the man might deserve the hype. It starts with a quotation from a speech he gave at the United Nations last month:

“We will support the Millennium Development Goals, and approach next year’s summit with a global plan to make them a reality. And we will set our sights on the eradication of extreme poverty in our time.”

They’re not my words, they’re your president’s. If they’re not familiar, it’s because they didn’t make many headlines. But for me, these 36 words are why I believe Mr. Obama could well be a force for peace and prosperity — if the words signal action.

What’s the line from Princess Bride?

Oh yeah….

Get used to disappointment.

Splungy,Why did you comment on a post which is a year and a half old?You ought to come up and check out what we are doing today. We are a blog wretitn by over fifty people from around the world. Our writers hail from countries as far-flung as Indonesia, Somalia, the UK, Germany, US, Canada, Hawaii, India, Pakistan, etc. There is no religious criteria behind how I choose our writers. We’ve even had several Muslims writers over time. The point is, do they want to fight against Islamofascism or not?By the way, our writer from Somalia is, I believe, and atheist (as are quite a few of our other writers), and our writer from India is a Hindu. There are a couple of Jews, and a few Christians here as well, but other than if someone writes about their religious beliefs (as I do periodically), no one knows what religion anyone is here.Oh, by the way, is Freedom a totalitarian ideology?:)
