Quite the distinguished award. Not for nothing, it is quite the lengthy process to go about getting nominated, selected, approved, and awarded. Which is why the 2009 award announcement comes out in October. Since the award is given in December of the year it is awarded, one can only assume that it is awarded based on a body of work from the preceding year (i.e. the October 2009 announcement should be for work done in 2008, or perhaps an august collection of work from previous years long endevours).
The 2009 awardee is President Obama.
For “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
Not to put a tarnish on the illustrious nature of such an award. But looking at the timeline, the nomination process closes in February…which means that the President was nominated based on what they hoped he would do in the coming year, since all he did in 2008 was conduct a successful campaign for election.
I hope that he has fulfilled the hopes of the committee who hoped he would spread his message of hope and, hopefully, translate those hopes into actions.
Cuz you know, that’s what it’s all about.
