Stupidity

Is apparently a hereditary trait..

Russell Gortzig, 13, said his friend siphoned gasoline from a riding lawnmower and poured it on Gortzig. The teen said he held the lighter away from him, but a combination of the spark and fumes caught his shorts on fire.

“Skin missing all the way down to his ankle on the front and the back,” mother Linda McCrea said.

She believes YouTube is partially to blame for her son’s pain.

I’m not sure who’s more of an idiot… the son for pouring gasoline on himself and acting surprised that a lighter caught him on fire, or the mother for thinking YouTube is at fault for her son being a raging shmuck.

Either way, the apple’s not falling far from the tree on this one.

This stunt reminds me of the invasion of Iraq…

They sure do grow ’em smart in the South! For the crime of avoiding taking responsibility for her own crappy parenting by blaming YouTube, Linda McCrea should be tied to a post in a large public square and have the crap continually smacked out of her for no fewer than 24 straight hours.

Tom, I agree with the punishment. There’s something to be said for public embarrassment.

Sadly though, I don’t think it’s a Southern regional thing. It’s a societal, lack of responsibility thing.

  4. Niall says:

Even if he saw the stunt on YouTube, why is his mother letting him watch YouTube in the first place? I wouldn’t let my kids near that site until they were able to tell the difference between stupidity and safety.

You can’t stop kids from watching YouTube, they’ll find a way.

But you’re right, you’ve got to teach your kids something that resembles safety.

I mean, you don’t have to teach them how to evaluate what they see on YouTube… but you can teach them things like “Pouring gas on yourself is a bad idea…”
