Back from the Front

USS FLORIDA (SSGN 728) returned home on May 8 following the completion of 13 months forward deployed.

Naval Submarine Kings Bay welcomed USS Florida (SSGN 728) (Gold) home from its maiden deployment as a guided missile submarine to May 8.

Florida is the first ever Atlantic Fleet Ohio-class SSGN to be forwarded deployed. Florida began its maiden deployment on April 26, 2008 and the arrival of Florida marked the first time the submarine returned to its homeport in 13-months.

Good job to both crews!!

As an aside, any typos in the excerpt were left in from the original. Go read the whole thing and then ask yourself what asshat PAO authorized THAT message for release. It makes me cringe to read it, but it completely checks with chart when you consider the train wreck that is the Navy’s Public Relations machine.

Oh, and I’m pretty sure they did more in 13 months then make three or four port calls. Clown.
